I pledge not to vote for, or otherwise support, any politician of any political party who supports the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which denies gay and lesbian Americans the same rights enjoyed by all other citizens. I also will not vote for, or otherwise support, any politician of any political party who supports any future amendments to the U.S. Constitution that deny equal rights to any group of Americans simply because of their race, sex, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.

Who in corporate America funds members of Congress who have endorsed the anti-gay constitutional amendment? Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is the lead supporter of the amendment in the U.S. Senate. He has compared gay relationships to incest, adultery and bestiality, and he suggested that gay marriage was worse than the September 11 attacks. DontAmend Tampa Bay has been closely following the Federal Marriage Amendment, since first proposed by Rep. Ronnie Shows, D-MS, May 2002. TBC has voiced strong opposition to this amendment, was drafted by an anti-gay religious right group, The Alliance for Marriage. TBC expressed this opposition, in a May 16, 2002, Op~ED, titled, "Federal Marriage Amendment Rears Its Ugly Head", which reads in part:
"A Constitutional Amendment " The Federal Marriage Amendment" has reared its ugly head in the Capitol recently. And once again, we are faced with yet another religious rights attempt to force their anti-gay agenda of intolerance and bigotry down our throats."
DATB will hold a Press Conference and Rally, Match 20, 2004, to express opposition to President Bush's endorsement of and Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution hearings on the "Federal Marriage Amendment".

On July 22, 2004, the House of Representatives passed legislation to strip the Supreme court and other federal courts of their jurisdiction to rule on challenges by gay and lesbians to have their Massachusetts same-sex unions recognized by states elsewhere. Passage of this legislation is an attempt to overcome President Bush and Republican party's failure to advance the Federal Marriage Amendment. The party-line vote is blatant election-year politics, to serve as a means to appease social conservatives, President Bush and the Republicans major supporters. The Marriage Protection Act of 2004, is the newest threat to "Marriage Equality" now goes to the Senate.
