Metro Dade Officer Arrested on Forced Sex Charges.
August 30, 2001: Metro-Dade Poice Officer Carlos Fuster was arrested on charges
he sexually assaulted at least three men while on duty. Illegal residents were his
targets, because of their fear of arrest the men had. It was reported, by the Miami
Herald, he beat one man and then threatened, "Do me or you'll be swimming with
the gators". If found guilty, he could face life in prison. Miami Herald.

August 29, 2001: It used to be quite difficult for Gays and  Lesbians to find quality
Gay-Friendly accomodations. It has gotten easier, but, quality may still be a problem.
With the desire for the gay dollars, embelishment of what is really available, is still a

ACLU Seeks New Ruling in Florida Adoption Ban Case
September 6, 2001: The August 30th ruling upholding the ban on gay  adoptions,
surprised and disappointed" the American Civil Liberties Union. One arguement
the state made, the ban reflects the state's moral disapproval of homosexuality,
the judge dismissed saying that public morality alone is insufficient to justify the
homosexual adoption provision. The UCLA is planning on filing a motion for
reconsideration, in which they will ask King to consider new facts in the case and
review certain aspects of his decision. If this is denied, appealing the judges  is still

Angers, Sadness Greets Adoption Ruling
August 31, 2001: The ruling upholding Florida's ban on gay adoptions
has been greeted with all types of emotions and feelings. Gay rights
groups expressed anger ad disappointment, None more disappointed
then Steven Lofton who may have the boy he has raised for the past
ten years. How truly sad we all feel for him. Posted are three articles

Judge Rules Gay Adoption Ban Valid.
August 30, 2001: Judge James L. King ruled it's in the childrens best
interest to have married heterosexuals as adoptive parents and that
they provide a more stable home. Finding Florida's law banning gay

Foster Parent Challenges State Ban on Gay Adoption.
August 1, 2001:  Steven Lofton, a gay man, who has been in a two years
legal battle to adopt his foster son, has been notified last month from the
Department of Children & Families, that have begun proceedings to remove
his 10-year-old foster child.

Broward Anti-Gay Rights Rollback Group Accused Of Illegal Tactics
September 3, 2001: A complaint filed with the State Attorney's Office, states forging
petition signatures and soliciting people who are not registered voters, is the tatics
being used by the organization trying to overturn Broward County's gay rights law.
Americans for Equality, gay rights group has been monitoring the petition, filed the

The Gay Rights Battle is Heating up in Broward County.
August 24, 2001: Those attempting to repeal the Broward County Gay
Rights Laws and those who are fighting to stop any repeal, kick it to
high gear. With 25 days left, things are heating up as Gay Rights battle

Dade faces suit over petitions
August 17, 2001: Gay-rights repeal petitions signatures are at issue as the
decision by election supervisor to reject affidavits of 23 people will lead
to lawsuit. The Elections Supervisor, David Leahy, accused of violating
``the rights of the voters by abusing his discretion,'' by Take Back Miami-
Dade's leaders. SAVE Dade, gay rights group opposing Take Back Miami-
Dade's efforts, turned in to Leahy what it considered to be evidence of
signature fraud and said it will continue its own challenge to the petition
signatures.
 
Broward anti-gay group braces for final siege.
August 4, 2001: With six weeks to go before the signature collection deadline
for group trying to over-turn the county's gay rights law, proponents of the law
are bracing for a final siege.

July 1, 2001:  Pro~Gay Rights Group has organized to fight the Anti-Gay Groups attempts to
repeal the section of the Human Rights Ordinance which offers protections based on sexual
orientation. These groups are targeting any and all existing Anti-Discrimination of Gays and
Lesbians Polices and Domestic Partners Benefits. Now online is the Americans for Equality~
Empower Broward Web Site. They're in desperate need of volunteers and donations if they
are to succeed. They are fighting against this very well funded arm of the Relegious Right's
deceptive petition drive attacking  on our hard fought for GLBT Rights.
