Mistaken Identity Fatal

(August 7, Memphis TN) A man who was holding a woman's purse and had one arm draped around the shoulder of another man outside a public washroom has been shot and killed.

Tennessee state police say the shooting took place in the parking lot of Opry Mills, a popular country music showboat.

Before he was murdered  Willie Houston, was taunted by his assailant, who made anti-gay remarks.

But, Houston was not gay.  The purse belonged to his fiancé who was using the washroom.  The man who he was with was blind.  Houston had his arm on his shoulder guiding him to the men's room.

The suspect has been identified as Lewis Maynard Davidson III, 25, and police are still searching for him.

Police have stopped short of saying the shooting could be classified as a hate crime. "The investigation is still very much open, and at this point in the case, we haven't established Davidson`s motive for shooting Houston," police spokesperson Dan Aaron said.
