Day of Silence
2004
Dear Day of Silence 2003 Endorser,We would like to thank you again for supporting the Day of Silence, a
project of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in
collaboration with the United States Student Association (USSA). Day
of
Silence 2003 was a huge success, with over 200,000 students participating
in nearly 2,000 K-12 schools nationwide, and an estimated 1,500 students
participating in approximately 300 colleges and universities, making it the
largest student-led action on LGBT issues in history. Without your support and
endorsement, we would not have been able to make such a strong impact!
We
are already gearing up for Day of Silence 2004, and wanted to alert all of our
past endorsers and partners to a date change for next year's day of
action. In order to avoid as many K-12 schools' and colleges' spring
breaks as possible, the Day of Silence 2004 will be held on WEDNESDAY,
APRIL 21, 2004. Please take note of this change and alert your
constituents.
In addition, we are currently working on relaunching the
Day of Silence website (www.dayofsilence.org), so please let us
know if you have any ideas or suggestions from young people with whom you work.
We are also in the process of asking organizations to renew their endorsement of
the Day of Silence, as well as outreaching to new organizations. You will
be hearing from us shortly regarding this, but in the meantime, best of luck
with all the work you do!
One last note -- please contact me (Myles
Gideon -- mgideon@glsen.org or 212-727-0135 x114)
with any information for other organizations you think would be interested in
endorsing the Day of Silence.
Sincerely,
Myles Gideon
