Indiana Town Rejects Anti-Gay Protesters
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff

(October 25, Bloomington, Indiana) People in Bloomington, Indiana say they want Pastor John Lewis and his anti-gay protestors out of town.

Lewis and about a dozen members of his Old Paths Baptist Church in Campbellsburg, about 45 miles southeast of Bloomington have been carrying placards reading "Fags are cursed".

Lewis' protest began with demonstrations against a production of  Corpus Christi this summer at Indiana University's Fort Wayne campus in northeastern Indiana.

The play portrays Jesus Christ as being gay.  Lewis calls the play "blasphemous".

This week he brought the protests to the main campus of the university in Bloomington.

The demonstrators marched back and forth in Peoples Park in downtown Bloomington.

One restaurant nearby refused to serve the demonstrators.  And, a counter protest was mounted by Laura Ingersoll, 19. She and a small group stood nearby holding placards reading, "Honk if you love your gay neighbour."

"I'm out here responding to their messages of hate," she said. "It's ridiculous. They should be doing something more productive with their time ... if they want to save the world."

Ingersoll said dozens of drivers honked their horns. She said she was encouraged by the signs of support.
