Police received new valuable information from "two anonymous tipsters" in the slaying of the gay man and have identified a group of suspects. Aaron Webster's brutally beaten body was found naked, except for hiking boots, by a close friend in Stanley Park on November 17th. Detective Sean Trowski said, "We have specific names of individuals that may be responsible."
According to the information the tipsters supplied, Detective Trowski said police believe Webster was probably swarmed by a group. "We are focusing on the angle that it was a gay bashing. But we believe that not everyone present intended to kill him." Police, still in intelligence-gathering mode, have yet to interview the suspects, none of whom are from Vancouver.
The individuals may be linked to the four attackers of an independent construction contractor, who recently came forward and was interviewed by The Vancouver Sun. Edward Smith told the Sun, he was attacked by four men wielding baseball bats in Stanley Park. His attack was just weeks before Aaron was beaten to death near Second Beach. Smith was to be interviewed by police this week, but, investigators have said, "We may interview him later. We want to make sure we have the right people. The groups may be linked together or know each other." But, the priority for police right now is the suspects identified by anonymous tipsters.
Smith told the Sun, that he recorded the license plate number of his attackers Jeep Cherokee, which was included in the police in a report he filed on Nov. 7.
