GLBT Community United, Contrary to Liberty
Education Forum Ad Campaign
It has never
been my desire to criticize any members or organizations of our
GLBT Community
for their beliefs. We
each have our issues that we direct our efforts toward in the hope of making
that positive difference
in the lives of our GLBT brothers and sisters.
Whether we agree or disagree
on which issues are of
most importance to our community. We must respect each
others choices
and support each others dedicated efforts on behalf of our community. We
must not criticize or try
to force others to
follow our personal views or beliefs. As long as the
each of our intended results
we are working to
achieve, does not have an adverse effect on the lives of GLBT's. Only when
we
see, their actions in
fact, is adversely effecting GLBT's lives. Do we have an obligation to
speak
out against their
actions and implore them to stop causing harm to our community.
So, I am not comfortable
speaking out against the ads being run by the Liberty Education
Forum,
but, am compelled to. I
believe the statements being made are grossly inaccurate and they
portray
our community in an
extremely negative light. What is most disheartening and alarming to me is that
they will feed
those who are a constant threat to us with even
more misinformation. One would think
these ads were from the
likes of the Robertson's, Farwell's and others Anti-Gay Groups. Who
we
would expect to make
such ludicrous and negative analogies of GLBT's and our
community in whole.
It causes me, and would
think most GLBT's and GLBT's Organizations, what possibly could the Log
Cabin's Republican
leader Rich Tafel and Kevin Ivers be thinking? Not to mention, where did
they
come up with these
figures showing that the GLBT Community en masse is opposing the
President,
especially, in this time
of war. This horrific terrorist attack has also taken loving partners of many of
our brothers and sisters. We are, as with all Americans, united
against terrorism and want President
Bush to succeed in his
mission to end terrorism. To imply this is not the case, you are insulting
the
integrity and patriotism
of all GLBT's. For this alone, Mr. Trafel and Mr. Ivers, I say "How Dare You
and
Shame on You
Both".
You web site states,
Liberty Education Forum (LEF), is a brand new educational think tank , dedicated
to new ideas and new
directions for the gay community, with a centrist
approach. The LEF's ideas and directions that you are to express in your ads.
Shows the GBLT Community, your think tank needs to do
more research into what
is taking place in our community and what you can do to better the lives of
your
GLBT brothers and
sisters. You must do less thinking about what benefits LEF will
gain by pandering to
the ideals of those who oppose and repress our community. If you
persist in spewing negative inaccurate
facts, in shameful
attack our us. The damage you will cause to our community and our lives, will be more devastating than any
anti-gay hate group could ever hope to.
Should
we remain silent and refuse to be actively involved,
Then, we lose all right
to complain on how things are or should be,
But, if we join our voices
together with others and speak out loudly,
And, if we get actively involved
working together in the pursuit of change,
Only then, will we all have much
less to complain about. Z.
