for AIDS ANNOUNCES A BRAND NEW
FLORIDA-BASED AIDS FUNDRAISER
Fort Lauderdale, FL - Bike It &
B.E.A.R. It
for AIDS is
pleased to present a new and exciting event designed to raise HIV/AIDS awareness
and funds in Florida.
A new bicycle ride, Bike It & B.E.A.R. It
for AIDS has
an ambitious goal of 2003 riders in 2003, and from the initial feedback is well
on its way to accomplishing its list of objectives. The 2-day, 203-mile bicycle
ride will leave Miami and take riders on a sun-kissed course down the coast of
Florida to Key West over a the period of November 7-9th 2003.
According
to Glen Weinzimer, Ride director, "We are very excited about the opportunity to
make a real and significant difference." He continues, "The event is born out of
disappointing results in past AIDS rides and a desire to see the needs of so
many who are forced to make a decision every day between paying for rent or
paying for lifesaving medications."
Bike It & B.E.A.R. It
for AIDS is
unique to past AIDS rides in Florida as the ride guarantees 100% of funds raised
by the riders raise will go to 6 benefiting AIDS service organizations in the
state of Florida. In addition, this event is giving the riders a degree of
control over the distribution of their money unheard in an event of this
magnitude.
Every rider and K.O.A.L.A. (crew who Keep Our
Athletes Looking Ahead) will have the first 50% of their money evenly divided
amongst the benefiting agencies and the second 50% the riders/KOALAs will
determine the distribution amongst the benefiting agencies. "This gives the
riders a sense of ownership and control, while giving the benefiting agencies an
incentive to have more riders from their respective communities participate",
says Glen Weinzimer.
This event is a fully supported bicycle ride with
rest areas, meals, hot showers, and road support for the riders all provided.
The safety of the riders is the #1 issue as bicycles compete for space on the
open road. The event is expected to benefit the following AIDS agencies in the
state of Florida:
-Florida AIDS Action in Tampa
-Hug Me in
Orlando
-Broward House in Fort Lauderdale
-AIDS Help, Inc in Key
West
-Nova Dental Clinic in Dade and Broward Counties
-Sarasota
CCC
Each agency has been asked to earmark the money raised to direct
services to include, but not limited to, pharmaceutical assistance, dental care,
medical visits, psycho social services, education, testing, and
advocacy.
