Shareholder Proposal No. 9 on ExxonMobil's Proxy
Ballot
Shareholders are voting on the Shareholder Proposal No.
9, to adopt an explicit, written
non-discrimination statement that includes the words "sexual
orientation." A call to action
by supporters of the proposal is being made and your help is
urgently needed. Should you,
a family member or friend, knows any shareholders of
ExxonMobil stock, please contact
them now. Request that they support Shareholders Proposal
#9 on ExxonMobil's Proxy
Ballot. All attempts by shareholders, pro-employee
and GLBT rights organizations, and
24 U.S. Senators to convince the powers that be at ExxonMobil,
to support this proposal
have failed. Our only hope is to influence
shareholders to votes in favor of the proposal.
In 1999 Exxon merged with Mobil, as with all mergers
changes are made in the day to day
business practices of each company. The first changes of this
merger, were to the existing
policies and employee benefits of Mobil Oil. They were to
delete "sexual orientation" from
Mobil's anti-discrimination employment policy and to eliminate
Mobil's domestic partners
benefits from their employees benefits program. This was not
only a huge step backwards
in equality for all employees in the workplace, but, the first
time such an action was taken.
This action was deemed unacceptable to many stockholders
of both companies. A group
of stockholders drafted proposals to re-instate Mobil's
policies and benefits on a proxy ballot
at annual shareholders meetings. ExxonMobil strangely
campaigned against these proposals
for the past four years they have been
presented. ExxonMobil claims that their policy covers
discrimination against sexual orientation, but, it is not
explicitly stated in their policy. ExxonMobil
attempted to strike the proposal from this years meeting,
their request to do so was denied by
the Securities and Exchange Commission.
