Lambda Legal and New Jersey Couples Launch Historic Lawsuit for Marriage
Equality
The fight for love with equality took a dramatic step
forward on June 26 when Lambda Legal joined seven lesbian and gay couples from
New Jersey in filing an historic lawsuit claiming their right to marry.
The case is being launched at a critical time. The
valiant struggle of gays and lesbians who lost their partners on September 11
has helped to create a new reservoir of respect and understanding for our loving
relationships. Now is the time to translate that new support into legal
equality.
And what better place than New Jersey? New Jersey’s
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community has worked hard over the
past two decades and won a ban on discrimination at work, protection from hate
violence, and the right to adopt - rights that most Americans take for
granted.

middle America? New Jersey's LGBT community has worked hard over the past two

and the right to adopt - rights that most Americans take for granted.
Lesbian and gay committed partners in New Jersey want and deserve
something more - the full equality that only the right to marry can bring. And
the couples who have bravely stepped forward to participate in this lawsuit want
their families to have the same legal protections that their neighbors, friends
and relatives have.
