Actress Anne Heche engaged to marry cameraman
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nine months after ending a highly publicized romance with comedian Ellen DeGeneres, actress Anne Heche is engaged to marry a cameraman she reportedly met during the filming of a documentary about DeGeneres. Amid gossip columns reporting that Heche was recently seen shopping for bridal wear in Beverly Hills, a spokeswoman for her management company, Lloyd Entertainment, confirmed that Heche is engaged to marry Coleman ``Coley'' Laffoon. No further information was immediately available about their wedding plans, including whether a date has been set.
Heche, 32, reportedly met Laffoon last summer while he was working as a cameraman on the production of a documentary about DeGeneres's stand-up comedy tour.
Heche and DeGeneres instantly became America's most prominent lesbian couple when they went public with their love affair in the spring of 1997.
That announcement came shortly after DeGeneres's TV alter ego came out of the closet on the popular ABC series ``Ellen,'' making her the first openly gay lead character on network television.
She and Heche announced they were breaking up last August 19, describing their parting as amicable, and media accounts were soon linking Heche with Laffoon, who reportedly became a fixture on the set of a movie Heche was then making with Denzel Washington, ``John Q.''
DeGeneres, 43, is now set to star in a new sitcom slated to premiere on CBS this fall.
Before her romance with DeGeneres, Heche had a two-year relationship with actor-comedian Steve Martin.
