Kyan
Douglas ~
Grooming Guru
"And what do you want for Christmas, little
boy?" Santa said to the perfectly coiffed six-year-old on his lap in a shopping
mall, somewhere in Florida. The boy looked up, teeth gleaming like an
Ultra-Brite spokesmodel. "Santa, all I want for Christmas is to let the world
know how important exfoliating is to rejuvenating new skin cells. It helps
people's skin look younger and gives their face a chance to retain a youthful
appearance well into their prime of life."
Kyan Douglas realized on that
day he had a mission to save the world and even Santa could only help minutely
in this huge task. So with his mixture of sea salts and moisturizers, he set out
to share his secrets of youth with the men of the world — even the straight
ones. And while he is well past 128 years old, he looks not a day over 27.
Kyan is a specialist in men's skin care has had extensive training and
professional experience in the Hair, Spa and Retail industries. He received his
certification in cosmetology from the Aveda Institute New York, and worked as a
colorist at the upscale Arrojo Studio in Soho. He has worked as a colorist for
television and magazine projects including TLC's What Not To Wear, While You
Were Out and Child I> Magazine.
Ted
Allen ~ Food & Wine
Connoisseur
It was the incident at Boy Scout camp that
sealed forever the sense of culinary purpose that informs Ted Allen's life and
work today. There he was, encamped with hundreds of boys in a Midwestern
cornfield, hours from the nearest organic market, when some uncouth Tenderfoot
left a can of cooking spray too close to the fire. The barbeque tragedy that
ensued nearly took out Troop 199. Worse, the blast rendered Ted's exquisite
Western Scramble completely inedible with rancid, oily fallout.
Thus the
young Ted found a new, urgent challenge: share some culinary knowledge with his
contemporaries before somebody gets killed, or at minimum, nauseated. Today, he
combs the world with his longtime partner, Barry Rice, in their never-ending
quest for the perfect roast chicken.
A Chicago native, Ted has been a
contributing editor to Esquire magazine where he is co-author of the
"Things a Man Should Know" column-an irreverent guide for men on such items as
fashion, sex, business etiquette, and cocktails, and co-authored four books that
grew out of that series. Before joining Esquire Ted was a senior editor
and restaurant critic with Chicago magazine where he wrote stories for
the dining department. He has interviewed such food luminaries as Mario Batali,
Martha Stewart, Paul Bocuse, Trotter, Rick Tramonto, Gale Gand, and Rick
Bayless.
Carson
Kressely ~ Fashion Savant
Carson Kressley was born in 1969 and received
his first piece of couture at the humble and tender age of 4. He slowly learned
that he was a gifted child by realizing that plaid and stripes never go together
and pleats make your butt look huge. He developed his keen fashion sense on the
playground, mixing and matching outfits of all the children in his head and
daydreaming of a world where everyone knew it was a cardinal sin to wear white
after Labor Day. This constant daydreaming caused him to excel in the fashion
world and obviously made him the last boy chosen in gym class.
In his
professional life, Carson is an independent stylist who spent many years working
with Polo Ralph Lauren in New York City, specializing in the design aspect of
the men's sportswear division. He also supervised fashion styling for the
company's national retail advertising campaigns. Carson graduated Magna Cum
Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College with degrees in
Finance and Fine Art, and is also an avid, nationally ranked equestrian. That
means he has a beautiful mind and always looks suave in the saddle.
Jai
Rodriquez ~ Culture
Vulture
It's recess at an exclusive boys school on
glamorous Long Island. The other fourth graders are running and yelling and
hurling dodge balls at one another. Where's little Jai Rodriguez? He's in the
band room, alone, finalizing the choreography for his first one-man show, J.J.:
Live at Lunch. Most of his classmates haven't yet exuded quite the same
enthusiasm for the theatre, but Jai takes solace in knowing that someday all
that lost recess time will pay off. (As he was heard to say, "Name for me ONE
famous dodge-ball player, mmm-kay?") Now Jai is sharing his quest for culture
and style with men the world over, at least those with TVs and access to basic
cable.
Jai is a talented actor, singer and dancer who is currently
starring in the lead role of Zanna in the off-Broadway musical hit Zanna, Don't!
Jai joined the production after a long stint on Broadway as Angel in the Tony
Award-winning musical Rent. Jai is also a fixture among the hip NYC social set,
regularly performing his solo act in the newest and hottest nightspots. On Queer
Eye, Jai uses all aspects of his professional training and skills as a performer
plus his social charisma to coach straight subjects on everything from mixing 'n
mingling in a social setting, to conversation skills, and to being at ease on
the dance floor.

Thom
Filicia ~ Design
Doctor
Perhaps it was the sounds of hammers pounding and sewing machines
thrumming from his boyhood room that first revealed Thom's destiny to the
outside world: he was festooning his drab surroundings as any sane child would,
with toile, crown moldings and the right lighting. Soon establishing a mastery
of color palettes and the importance of high-thread-count Egyptian Pima
completely took precedence over any interest in sports or sociability in high
school. Thom's current obsession is his own country house in the Hamptons — a
controversial, 100,000-square-foot compound inspired by The Palace of
Versailles.
Thom is the founder of his own interior design company, Thom
Filicia Inc., where he has established a strong reputation as one of the top 100
American Designers. His firm has completed both residential and commercial work
in metropolitan New York, the Hamptons, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts,
Washington D.C., Florida, California, Utah and Bermuda. Thom holds a B.A. in
Interior Design from Syracuse University's school of Art and Design in the
college of Visual and Performing Arts. Early on, Thom focused his creativity on
high-end interiors working at the venerable firms of Parish Hadley Associates
and Robert Metzger Interiors. Having established a strong classical foundation,
he became a senior designer for Bilhuber Inc. where he exercised a personal
aesthetic driven by a unique and innovative vision of classic simplicity.
