This eyewitness account of the Queen Boat Raid was sent in on 12 May. Last Thursday night, 10th of may, as many gay men were dancing laughing and having fun in QUEEN BOAT (a discotheque on the Nile) the police was surrounding the place to arrest as many innocent people as possible and ruin their night and life. Their only crime was homosexuality. The place is not only for gays as there were many straight people there. The police was very picky, arresting the entire single men or couples who weren't in the company of a woman. The policemen didn't arrest foreigners though; only Egyptian gay men. WHAT WAS THEIR CRIME? Weren't they enjoying their time as the others? And as the Egyptian law doesn't include any statements against homosexuality, some might think they'll be freed soon without any charges, but the police can deceitfully charge them with other accusations like "offending public morals and sensitivities" or even "prostitution" then can easily fake evidences. Two friends of mine were in the discotheque. As they were going out they found the police arresting gay men (those who look gay or those who were not accompanying a girl/womanfriend). One of them was able to escape, as there were more people to be arrested than policemen were. The other one couldn't. We couldn't do anything more than sending a lawyer to help. He went to the police station to look for our friend and the others. But they denied they were there. After bribing a soldier, our lawyer found out that all the arrested people were locked in there and that they'll be sent to the prosecutor next morning. One only wonders what is going on in there. Still the lawyer couldn't meet his client. Is it in the law that a lawyer can't meet his client?!!!!!!! We nearly/almost/approximately/ know where is our friend and that makes us luckier than other families and friends who don't know where their sons/brothers/friends are. The families are wondering among hospitals and police stations asking about their sons and can't (of course) find them. Till when will they be denied and withhold from their families/friends/lawyers? Maybe till the police officers finish creating suitable accusations and forging enough evidences. This is not the only case taking place these days, it's obvious that police has taken new measurements for harassing homosexuals in general, they don't only go to places where they can find them, but they also post personal ads on the net, chat with gay men on chat rooms, date them and arrest whomever falls into their traps. This is an example, for two months, a friend was corresponding with someone that he met on the net through his personal ad, they even exchanged phone numbers and pictures. After two months, they finally decided to meet and the man gave him the address where he lives and told him, when you arrive, ask the "Bawwab - the guard of the building" about me and he will show you the way. He went on time and when he reached there and asked about the man, three policemen were waiting for him and told him that the man was killed and we need you to answer some questions. Of course there was no murder, and the guy he was communicating with him for two months was one of them, they had a complete file with all the e-mails exchanged, pictures... etc. for 5 or 6 days, no one knew where is my friend, the family were looking for him and finally they managed to find where he is, no lawyer is allowed to meet him, he is there for almost two weeks and God knows how long they will keep him, he was forced to sign a declaration that he is homosexual and he practice sex with other men... etc. of course he will be charged by all kind of charges which are all faked.
