Massschusettes UPDATE Sept 11, Jacques lost her bid for Congressional seat
                           in special election primary.
Will Massachusettes Send a Lesbian Congresswoman to the Hill.
Sept.7: Senator Cheryl Jacques jumped into the race for the late for the ninth congressional seat of the
late Joe Moakley's. But, she has outdone almost all her rivals Brian Joyce, sate Senator Marc Pacheco
of Taunton, John Taylor and former U.S. attorney Bill Sinnott and William Ferguson in the fund-raising.
Excluding the socially conservative Democrat Stephen Lynch, raised over a million dollars to Jacques's
$ 9000,000. for their campaigns, Early on, gay political insiders warned, that her late entry into the race
would split the progressive vote. Thus, handing Democrat Stephen Lynch an easy victory in the Sept.11,
special election primary. This had the potential of a Senator, who has been less than friendly ongay
issues, representing the ninth district.However, Jacques gained endorsements from all the major gay
political organazations, which shows the gay community is solidly in support of her candidacy. In this
Nith District race, the gay votecould very well be the key in making the Senator Cheryl Jacques, into the
Congresswoman Cheryl Jacques. There by adding a newname to the list of Lesbian Congresswoman on
the Hill.

Cop Demoted After Sex Reassignment.
August 31, 2001: McMinnville, Oregon. The local County sheriff's office has demoted a sergeant after
undergoing sex-change surgery. The 18 year vertern, Sgt. Debra Walker, 53, has been demoted to the
entry-level position of deputy sheriff. She will lose more than $ 9,000 a year due to the demotion.

Gays Seek Asylum See Familiar Prejudices in U.S.
August 2, 2001: Gays have fled abuse or threat of death in countries where government officials and
the police participated or condoned this attacks on gays. However they find their immigrant communities
who usually welcome and help, reject or menace gay and lesbian newcommers from their homeland.

New Jersey Scout Group Decide to Waive Gay Ban to Receive Funding
September 4, 2001: United Way of Central Jersey has a policy prohibiting discrimination against
gays. The New Jersey Boy Scout council has decided to abide by this policy and it's executive
director, Ron Green, signed United Way comprehensive antidiscrimination policy agreement. Not
because he believes discrimination of gay members is wrong, he had 80,000 ($ 80,000.00) other

Gay Scout Leader Rejected Despite New Policy
August 11, 2001: Despite the Minuteman Scout Council's new anti-discrimination policy,
a gay man, fired as a scout leader in New Hampshire was rejected for a similar post in

Mitsubishi Gives Workers Domestic Partners Benefits.
September 1, 2001: The Japanese are now following the lead of the North American
automakers. In the new contract signed with United Auto Workers, Mitsubishi Motor
Manufacturing of America is extending health insurance coverage to the same-sex
partners

Largest Newspaper Company to Offer Partner Benefits.
August 31, 2001: The Gannett Co., will extend benefits to same-sex and opposite-sex
domestic partners of its employees January 1, 2002. Employees who have been in a
commited relationship for at least 12 months, can have benefits cover their domestic
partners. By submmiting an affidavit stating this, benefits will be extended to their

Pressure's on: Firms Work to Ban Discrimination
August 13, 2001: Companies are coming under increasing pressure to institute policies
banning discrimination based on employees' sexual orientation.
