TV's Top Queer
Kisses
Daytime soap history was made when All My Children aired the first
lesbian kiss on afternoon TV. But while All My Children may be breaking new
ground in daytime, primetime TV has a long and proud history of queer smooches.
Did you ever notice all these lip dockings occur during sweeps weeks? The
networks know that even in Middle America, where finding a queer positive town
is a bit like finding a bagel and lox, the fine upstanding citizens who deny us
our rights are glued to their TVs for queer makeout
scenes.

Gay
Rappers: Too Real for Hip-Hop
Hip-hop is now as large a cultural stage as baseball was in the
50's, yet the mainstream is just as closed to gay rappers as the major leagues
were to black men before Robinson. And, as with Robinson, for gay rappers to
break through could have a profound impact on how gay people are perceived
throughout America. Many in gay hip-hop feel it's inevitable that a gay rapper
will gain mainstream success. A 2002 album,
"BourgieBohoPostPomoAfroHomo," deals with
homosexuality less
sensually than politically.
