Comprehensive news coverage on Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's placement of a granite

He refued to remove it when ordered to so, by U.S. Federal District Judge Myron Thompson, who

Marching Orders for Alabama's Ten Commandments
Aug. 28: A contentious granite monument inscribed with the ten commandments and other religious references was finally removed from public view at the Alabama state judicial building yesterday, in
the face of furious protests. The removal was carried out in response to an order by a federal judge
that the monument's presence violated the constitutional separation of state and church. As the
controversial Ten Commandments monument was removed from the rotunda of an Alabama judicial
building, about 100 protesters some of whom had camped out all week were visibly
shaken and angered by the action.

Alabama's Chief Justice Suspended Over Ten Commandments Display
Aug. 22: Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended today pending the outcome of
an ethics complaint for his defiance of a federal court order to move Ten Commandments
monument from the state judicial building in Montgomery.

Homophobic Judge Moore Told To Remove Commandments
In the dead of night and without other justices knowing about it. Chief Justice Roy Moore installed
a 5,300-pound stone monument of Ten Commandments in Alabama's judicial building. A citizens
group went to court claiming the monument violates the separation of church and state. U.S. District
Judge Myron Thompson agreed and ordered Moore to remove the monument within 30 days at his
own expense. Moore, who puts his own beliefs above the law told reporters, "I have no plans to
remove the monument, and when I do I will let you know personally." The homophobic chief justice says
he'll appeal the federal judge's order to remove the monument. Americans United for Separation of

Alabama Judge's Ouster Sought After Biased Anti-Gay Remarks
Gay rights organizations in Alabama, Washington and Nationwide called for the resignation of
Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court. Moore, in a child-custody opinion,
wrote, homosexuality was considered "abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature
and a violation of laws of nature and of nature's God."
Tampa Bay Coalition, joins with gay rights advocates and organizations across the nation in
in condemning Judge Moore's bias and prejudiced remarks directed at the lesbian mother
involved in the custody case and all gays and lesbians.
 
Chief Justice Provokes Weekend Protests
May 14: Approximately 400 people gathered at Alabama's state capitol in separate simultaneous
rallies both supporting and condemning state supreme court chief justice Roy Moore, who called "homosexuality an inherent evil" in court ruling denying a lesbian mother custody of her children. 
 
Judge Moore Defends His 'Evil' Comments
Mar. 25: Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court, Roy Moore, spoke about his
controversial remarks in a lesbian mother's custody case. Moore told a crowd in
Leeds, Ala., that he had nothing against homosexuals, but simply condemned
homosexuality as a criminal and immoral act

Feb. 26: A new poll shows nearly 70 percent of Alabamians believe sex between
two men or two women is "always wrong."  The Mobile Register University's poll also
showed, 50 percent agreed with Moore's view, anyone who is openly homosexual is
necessarily unfit
to be a parent.

Feb. 25: U.S. Supreme Court let stand a federal appellate ruling barring the governor of
Indiana from erecting a monument to the Ten Commandments on the grounds of the state
capitol. Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is facing his own federal lawsuit
