City
Council Votes 6-2 to Protect GLB from
Discrimination.
Jan.
5: St Petersburg, FL; The
City Council finally decides to nclude sexual orientation in the human rights
ordinance. But, their compromise has fallen short of what activists had hoped
for. The council has refused to include cross-dressers, transsexuals and
transgender in their decision. Mayor Rick Baker opposed including sexual
orientation, his remarks regarding his personal religious beliefs angered many.
But, his threat to veto the council's decision won't happen, the majority
vote overrides his
ability to do so.
