Gay Teen Suicide Victim's Family Gets 2nd Chance for Justice The family of a gay teen who committed suicide, after Minersville, PA. police officers threatened to out him to his grandfather, family, friends and the community, may finally receive justice. U.S. District Judge Arnold Rapoport, tossed out the jury acquittal of the police officers involved, calling it a "miscarriage of justice" and he ruled that he believed the jury's verdict was against the weight of the evidence. Judge Rapoport has ordered a new trial and perhaps now, the family of Marcus Wayman may finally receive justice and those who contributed to causing Marcus to take his life, will be held accountable for their actions. A Lesson in Tolerance, I Think Not. The Grossmont Union School district boards made a dangerous decision effecting Granite Hills High School's gay and bisexual students. In these times of increased tormenting, bias, discrimination and violence of gay and bisexual students in our schools, we have to protect them. The boards decision to edit the Anti-Defamation League film on promoting tolerance, "Names Can Really Hurt Us", did more to promote discrimination, bias and intolerance to a segment of the schools students. To send the message that half of a glass of hatred, is better than a full glass, is repugnant. The school board is telling gay and bisexual students they are second class citizens. Not deserving of the same rights to be protected from harassment and torment in our schools, as non-gay and non-bisexual students have. |

"What the Hell Was I Thinking" Falwell Will Never Change His Spots. There was a time when I believed a leopard was capable of changing their spots. Even though, everyone was telling me this was not possible, leopards can't change their spots. But, I was convinced, that Jerry Falwell had change his spots. It was back in 1999, when I thought, the Rev. Jerry Falwell had experienced a homosexual epiphany. That's when, Mr. Falwell, supposedly had a change of heart about Gays. Falwell was joining with Mel White, to speak out at a forum against violence directed toward gays. Falwell, said he wasn't about to do a 360 on preaching Gay is OK. He still thinks it's a no, no as a lifestyle and he will speak out about the violence directed at gays. Falwell said, he loves homo's, but, not the homo sin. This seemed to be just a tiny step forward, but, at least it was a step, in what I thought was in the right direction. An Amendment Limiting Marriage to a Man and Woman Reared It's Ugly Head The Federal Marriage Amendment, has reared its ugly head in the Capitol recently. And once again,we are faced with yet another religious rights attempt to force their anti-gay agenda of intolerance and bigotry down our throats. The proposed constitutional amendment, was drafted by the anti-gay religious right group, The Alliance for Marriage. The AMA claims the Federal Marriage Amendment is a reasonable response to the crisis for our democratic society created by those, (those being gay, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people that is), who would use the courts to overcome public opinion with respect to marriage. |

Shame on Mayor Rick Baker, Mayor of Some of the People, But, Not Mayor for "All the People" I was pleased the city council voted to include sexual orientation protection against discrimination in housing and employment for Gay, Lesbian and Bisexuals. I am disappointed the transsexual, cross-dresser and transgender citizens were not extended the same protections. This may be a step forward to equality and fairness to citizens of St. Peterburg, an great opportunity to take a giant step forward for equality for "all of citizens" was sadly missed. |

"Op-Ed: 9-11 Mychal Judge Law Comes Up Short" By Karen Doering Esq One year ago, Tampa Officer Lois Marrero was killed in the line of duty leaving behind colleagues, friends, family and a life partner of 11 years, Officer Mickie Mashburn. Lois' death brought not only grief, but the sad realization that the life she and Mickie shared for more than a decade was of no legal consequence. Mickie would not receive the pension benefits due a survivor. At a time of her deepest grief, Mickie's world became a maze of paperwork, legal battles and conflict. |
